   Big Island Genetics was started in 2016 by "Professor Potgrower" a veteran guerilla grower, medical cannabis patient and infamous activist/defendant. Soon after his release from doing 12 months in federal custody he captured a trophy in Honolulu for a medical cannabis competition today known as the Aloha Cup. He won 1st place for the Big Island and second overall for the state of Hawaii with his entry of Puna Diesel. Experienced with over 20 years of growing, the Professor had dabbled with breeding with some notable success after creating a strain known as "Lucky" that moved around Puna growers for nearly 10 years before eventually disappearing like so many great local strains have done.

   Big Island Genetics started by offering Puna Diesel hybrids and the Professor's hunt for the legendary Puna Budder and the other Hawaiian classics was made top priority. It would still take a couple more years before that jewel was located far from Hawaii along with  Maui Wowee, Molokai Snow, Kauai Electric and Kona Gold to make a complete collection from  different islands. All from one source who passed these one of a kind genetics to the Professor telling him "you think that you found these genetics but that's not what happened. They found you. I've been breeding these strains all these years waiting to find the right person to continue them, keeping them pure...and sharing them with the world."

   We are humbled to have the honor to preserve, protect, produce and promote these rarest of the rare lines. There are those who find it difficult to accept that a non-Hawaiian transplant from Las Vegas could actually find these very coveted strains when nobody else could for decades. Some cannot believe this because the true sources of these strain are Hawaiians and racial lines have been clearly drawn as a part of the local culture and the ha'oles history of lying, manipulating, stealing and destroying Hawaiian culture makes it less than likely Hawaiians would just give these seeds to the Professor. That's exactly what happened. The haters have taken to the internet in a blatant attempt to discredit the Professor and the authenticity of the genetics. The seeds speak for themselves and have been independently vetted by several different sources.

  HHHawaii is known as possibly the most unique and special places on the planet. From the perfect weather to it's spectacular beauty Hawaii is famous for it's beaches, volcanoes, surf and the highest quality goods such as orchids, anthuriums, coffee, papayas, mangos, pineapples and especially cannabis. At one point, cannabis was once Hawaii's number one cash crop. It's believed that it still is. The bar has been set very high for cultivated cannabis varieties for decades. With legendary strains like Maui Wowee, Kona Gold and Puna Budder elite has been the standard. 

    The exceptional quality and intensity of the Hawaiian sun lends to the exceptional quality of cannabis born and bred in Hawaii. Nowhere is there more cannabis grown in Hawaii than in the district of Puna. Where as the vast majority of herb is consumed in Honolulu, most of all of it is grown in Puna..land of lava.

   At higher elevations up the slope of Kilauea volcano is tropical rainforest. Expected rainfall is over 120 inches per year. That's ten feet of rain. Plants grown here in "upper Puna" have to have exceptional resiliency to rain, humidity and mold. Mold resistance is the number one trait bred for at Big Island Genetics. There is no place more rampant with grey mold a.k.a. Botrytis than Puna. Many Dutch, Canadian and California varieties can't make it here literally turning into mush after a few days of rain and/or never growing any taller than  a foot or so apparently stunted. These stain simply lack the vigor needed to grow into trees. With most of the year's sunshine near 12 hours plants grow and flower quickly usually within 6-8 weeks immediately after declaring sex. This means to grow a 6 foot plus plant in 90-120 days it  needs to practically jump up out of the ground or pot...and fast. Short/small fragile plants don't get selected in our breeding lines. 

    Most strains found in dispensaries are a recombination of the same genetics, up to 80% of most strains are related to each other. This has forward thinkers seriously concerned about the future of cannabis genetic diversity. Consumers are unfortunately ignorant about how limited their choices actually are.  Big Island Genetics possibly has one of if not THE most diverse gene pools of all simply because different varieties came from across the globe to create varieties 40-50 years ago. Old school genetics from cannabis kingdoms such as Thailand. Cambodia, Vietnam, Tibet, Nepal, India, Afghanistan. Morocco, South Africa, Columbia, Panama and especially sativa sanctuaries like Oaxaca and  Michoacán, Mexico. Exotic tropical sativas were often crossed with Afghani hash strains to create unimaginable high test hybrids. These Hawaiian heirlooms were only in the memories of those fortunate enough to experience them back in the day. Even those landrace cultivars from across the globe that bred the Hawaiian strains of old are long gone. Well... maybe not so much after all. What was thought lost has now been found as it once was and Big Island Genetics wants to share the Aloha with the world.
